Did you know?!

⁉️ Did you know ⁉️: the average supermarket apple has been alive for 14 months before it gets to your kitchen? ⁣

In the U.S. apples are picked just before ripening, treated with 1-methylcyclopropene (#lolwut ) waxed, boxed, and stored in refrigeration warehouses for an average 9-12 months 🤯⁣

𝗪𝐡𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬??⁣

☝🏼 the amount of energy needed to store and transport these apples produces huge amounts of carbon = the root cause of #climatechange⁣

𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥. ⁣

✌🏼 the longer your apples (or any vegetation)

take to get from harvest to your mouth = diminishing nutrient-content. ⁣

𝘈𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵. ⁣

𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨?? I’m so glad you asked!⁣

🍎 #buylocal -> find a farmer or farmer’s market close by who can supply you with fresh produce directly ⁣

🍏 #eatseasonally -> pick produce based on the season. Hint: apples peak in August-October ⁣

🍐 #growyourownfood -> while you may not be in a part of the world conducive to growing a full garden year-round, lots of things can be grown in pots indoors!⁣
